News:
March 15th, 2009 -- In response to popular request, members will now be able to sort favorite stories, and stories on their alert list by last update date
in the administration section.
We have squashed a bug which resulted in some qualified members not properly showing
up in the beta-reader search engine.
March 5th, 2009 --
A new "Plays/Musicals" top-level category has been created in response to growing interest. All play/musical related sections from the "Misc" category have been relocated to the new home. Due to this update, some category specific links have changed.
Reader Traffic feature has been extended to both forums and communities. Respective administrators can login and visit the traffic area for access to these two new features. Forum/Community traffic data collection started in February of 2009.
Please note we have updated the website Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Translations of the two documents in both Spanish and German have been provided with French versions forthcoming.
We have resolved an issue which affected Reader Traffic access and collection on the first day of every new month
and a problem which caused timed-out errors for large file uploads in the Document Manager.
December 19th, 2008 -- A discrepancy between the actual number of Community subscribers
and the value displayed has been fixed.
December 18th, 2008 -- Category selection interface has been restored to the search engine
and we have fixed a problem with the dictionary not returning results.
Profile images/avatars are now displayed at a larger size of 150x150 pixels.
To correct blurry images please re-upload your profile avatar in the login area.
December 16th, 2008 -- We like to wish everyone a wonderful passage through the holidays
and great aspirations for the new year ahead.
The search engine has just been upgraded. Interface has been streamlined and users
now can search for Forums and Communities. We encourage Forum and Community
administrators to update their forum/community summary/description to include as
much detail as possible to be more search friendly.
Forum moderators now have the ability to ban/block a user within
a specific forum for a period ranging from days to perpetual. Moderators
now have the options to delete a single post by an user, all posts by the user within the topic, or
all posts by the user within the forum.
November 17th, 2008 -- Notable changes from our latest round of category cleanup:
Avatar: Last Airbender moved to Cartoons
HiHi Puffy Ami Yumi moved to Cartoons
L.J. Smith changed to Secret Circle series
Golden Compass/Northern Lights merged into His Dark Materials
Dark Knight merged with Batman Begins to become Batman Begins/Dark Knight
Misc. Anime/Manga/Comic/Cartoon/Game/Movie/TV categories have been moved to the "Misc" root/top
category. November 12th, 2008 -- Important Noice: To users having email alert issues
and are using email providers like or similar to Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, or GMail, please
read the following. FanFiction.Net emails are being delivered to you but your email provider
might have moved them into the "spam" folder. To avoid this in the future,
add the email address "bot@fanfiction.com", notice it is .com and not .net, to your web account's
contact list, and make sure you leave the option
of auto-delete for spam unchecked. In addition, whenever you receive an alert and it's marked spam,
you should hit the "not spam" button when available.
We have implemented a second revision to our post-login/administrative interface. This new design
is more browser friendly and now requires only a single mouse click to access all features.
November 11th, 2008 --
Cumulative story/profile hit counters have been restored to the old stats pages. In addition, we are
working to resolve an issue with some members not being able to receive PM and other email alerts.
If you are having an issue with alerts, please contact support@fanfiction.com with a
Yahoo IM, AIM, or Google Talk account name so a staff member may contact you directly.
November 7th, 2008 -- We will be prompting some members to update their passwords after
login. Many users are still using weak passwords which are too short or are too closely associated
with their email address or pen name. On a side note, the review button at the bottom of story pages
has been relocated to make it more prominent/visible to readers.
November 5th, 2008 -- We have fixed two bugs within Document Manager which affected many members: 1) Horizontal Rules
(solid line breaks) being removed from the online editor with some web browsers. 2) The first line of an uploaded
document being repeated at the top. Please note we are actively making changes to the login area and expect all
outstanding issues to be resolved shortly.
October 31st, 2008 -- Have a great Halloween! We are pushing out a redesign of the
admin/login area and we expect to complete all the changes by next Friday. Due
to the amount of modifications, we are anticipating some growing pains.
Please help us speed up the process by reporting all problems to support@fanfiction.com.
October 28th, 2008 -- The Document manager received several upgrades last night.
Please email support if you have issues with uploading html files or have strange formatting issues
with documents since the upgrade: extra space(s) inserted before paragraphs, spacing, etc.
October 27th, 2008 (2) -- Important Notice: Due to a scheduled system upgrade, the login area and associated features, including
reviewing and story upload/submission, will be disabled from 11PM to approximately 3AM tonight Pacific (PST) time. Reviews received
today will not show up until tomorrow.
October 27th, 2008 -- We have fixed an issue with the Document Manager which caused large file uploads,
documents with over 50,000 words, to either time out or return a blank page. A related problem that caused
slow loading document editing pages has also been resolved.
October 24th, 2008 -- Site is now compatible with Internet Explorer 8.0 Beta.
However, it is important to know that IE 8 is an early beta software with many unresolved bugs.
We highly recommend everyone to avoid IE 8 until it is officially released.
October 23rd, 2008 -- We are recategorizing many categories
within the book section which have previously been titled by author, rather than by book/series.
We are moving away from titling categories by author names. Here is the first batch of changes:
C.S Lewis Chronicles of Narnia
L M Montgomery Anne of Green Gables series
F. Scott Fitzgerald Tender is the Night
H. G. Wells Time Machine
V.C. Andrews Dollanganger Saga
Anne McCaffrey Dragonriders of Pern series
Please notify categories@fanfiction.com if you need new categories added so you may migrate your
entries to the proper section.
Authors search engine has been improved so searches for authors with long names,
names composed of multiple words, will now correctly return results.
October 22nd, 2008 -- Private Messaging (PM) page/feature improvements:
a) can now embed links to fanfiction.net or fictionpress.com addresses, b) preview feature has been
added, c) previously banned characters are now valid, d) PM message is now limited to 6000 characters.
We have also improved our spam tracking system. Please note the PM system is not to be used for
any type of unsolicited spam which includes but is not limited to story/forum/community advertisements.
October 20th, 2008 -- Improvements to the author search engine will now provide
more accurate search results and previously ineffective search phrases for authors will now correctly
return matched records.
October 18th, 2008 -- Whole story backup feature has been added to make
it easier for authors to save an entire story with all chapters as one file for archival purposes. Authors
can access the new feature via the story edit/property page.
Reader Traffic has been extended to collect and display web traffic for member's profile page.
We have improved our anti-spam/flood protection for both anonymous and signed reviews.
